From the beginning

In 1985, young craftsman Mark Boddington set up Silverlining with a vision to become one of Britain’s’ leading furniture makers.

Now, nearly three decades later, Silverlining’s innovative and award- winning furniture can be found in palaces, museums, galleries, corporate headquarters, residences and yachts around the world.

Against the grain

Driven by a love of wood and a passion for the craft of furniture, Mark Boddington opted out of his family’s famous brewing firm to train under the renowned furniture designer John Makepeace OBE.

Making our mark

In 1985, aged just 21, Mark set up shop in a disused cow barn in his home county of Cheshire. Inspired by his early use of inlaid silver in furniture, the company was christened Silverlining.

A growing reputation

Early commissions included work for the Grosvenor Family’s remodeled Eaton Hall, the most significant of which was a suite of furniture including 14 English walnut and exotic inlaid wood dining chairs.

Setting sail

Soon after, the company was commissioned to work on its first super yacht – The Royal Motor Yacht, Claire, owned by Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei – the start of a longstanding affiliation with the yachting fraternity.

Global influence

Today, almost 30 years since our inception, Silverlining furniture can be found in palaces, private residences, corporate headquarters, museums, galleries and yachts in all parts of the world.

Industry recognition

Among our numerous awards, we remain the only furniture maker in the UK to win three Guild Marks and the Annual Award for Excellence in Design and Craftsmanship in the same year by The Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers.

Our brand today

Today, the Silverlining Group of Companies comprises three brands: Bespoke, Collector and Editions. Mark continues to lead creative development, working closely with our team of extraordinarily talented individuals.

Paying it forward

We believe passionately in the continuation of craft, and through our programme of apprenticeships and internships, we’re passing on our knowledge to a new generation and supporting the lifeblood of future furniture making.

A clear vision

Just like our work, Silverlining’s vision is both ambitious and achievable: to become the most inspiring furniture brand of the 21st century where design, craftsmanship, innovation and engineering come together to make clients’ dreams come true.

Queen's Award

Silverlining Furniture is delighted to announce that we have won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
